Benjamin Vogt is the author of the poetry collection Afterimage (SFA University Press, 2012), as well as two chapbooks: Without Such Absence (Finishing Line Press) and Indelible Marks (Pudding House). He has two
unpublished memoirs -- Morning Glory: A Story of Family & Culture in the Garden, and Sleep, Creep, Leap: The First Three Years of a Nebraska Garden (self published). He is also at work on Turkey Red: Memoirs of Oklahoma.
Benjamin has a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, an M.F.A. from The Ohio State University, and a B.F.A. from the University of Evansville. His nonfiction and poetry have been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, and he is the recipient of fellowships from the Vermont Studio Center, Ropewalk Writers Retreat, University of Nebraska, Ohio State University, and the Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Memorial Fund. Benjamin's writing has appeared in over fifty journals, newspapers, anthologies, and textbooks, including American Life in Poetry, Crab Orchard Review, Diagram, Hayden’s Ferry Review, ISLE, Orion, Puerto del Sol, Sou’wester, Subtropics, The Sun, and Verse Daily.
He is also the author of the blog The Deep Middle where he shares his writing and a 1,500 foot native prairie garden. Benjamin's garden has been featured on Fine Gardening's blog, Apartment Therapy, and in newspapers such as the Lincoln Journal Star and the Omaha World Herald, while he has contributed guest blog posts for Garden Rant and Timber Press. He also writes a Great Plains region gardening advice and design column for Houzz.com, as well as being a member of the blog Native Plants and Wildlife Gardens. Benjamin serves on the board of the Wachiska Audubon Society and lives in Lincoln, Nebraska with his wife, where he teaches English at the University of Nebraska and Doane College, and runs a native prairie garden consulting business, Monarch Gardens.
